Practice report: Highlights plays for the young and old

The report from the 49ers’ third practice of training camp …

OFFENSIVE PLAY OF THE DAY: In 7-on-7 work near the goal line, wide receiver Anquan Boldin, 34, ran a crossing route along the back of the end zone and reached behind his body to corral an off-the-mark pass from Colin Kaepernick. There’s a reason only 14 players in NFL history have more catches than Boldin. I think he’ll make the 53-man roster.

DEFENSIVE PLAY OF THE DAY: Undrafted rookie outside linebacker Marcus Rush showed impressive reflexes when he reached up and intercepted a screen pass from third-string quarterback Dylan Thompson, who was – maybe – two feet away from Rush.
