The Carolina Panthers want to talk to the 49ers' Martin Mayhew about their opening at general manager.
The Panthers fired general manager Dave Gettleman in July and hired Marty Hurney, who served as Carolina’s general manager from 2002-12, on an interim basis. Hurney's one-year contract runs out in June.
He appears to be the top candidate to take over full time, but the Panthers also are considering Bills executive Lake Dawson, Texans executive Jimmy Raye III and, according to Pro Football Talk, Mayhew.
Mayhew, who spent eight years as the Detroit Lions' general manager, was hired last season to give first-time 49ers general manager Martin Mayhew more experience in the front office.
