The San Francisco 49ers waived John Theus on Wednesday to add linebacker Elijah Lee, and for the time being, they won’t be getting Theus back. The Carolina Panthers have claimed him off waivers for their 53-man roster, according to the official NFL transaction sheet.
The 49ers had Theus inactive last week in the season opener against the Panthers. Garry Gilliam got the nod as the swing tackle, and with Theus’ departure, Gilliam is locked into the role. The 49ers have offensive linemen Darrell Williams, Jr. and John Flynn on the practice squad.
