KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Sunday, in a training room at Arrowhead Stadium, a torch was reluctantly passed: After a 38-27 loss to the Chiefs, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo shared a moment with his backup, C.J. Beathard.
“I told him I would be praying for him and that I love him,” Beathard said. “He told me to lead these guys.”
With Garoppolo likely out for the season with what is feared to be a torn ACL, Beathard will assume the starting job he lost about a month after Garoppolo was acquired in a trade last year.
