Super Bowl 50 is still two weeks away, but today is actually a Super Bowl anniversary for the San Francisco 49ers. 27 years ago, on January 22, 1989, Joe Montana connected with John Taylor for a touchdown that beat the Cincinnati Bengals 20-16. Jerry Rice was the MVP of that game, hauling in 11 receptions for 215 yards and a touchdown.
It's kind of crazy how much earlier the Super Bowl was back in the day, and this is actually not even close to the earliest Super Bowl. In 1977, the Oakland Raiders beat the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl 11 on January 9.
