San Francisco 49ers fans cheer in 1984. (Fred Larson/The Chronicle.)
I called my mom earlier this year, expecting to hear another epic rant about the 49ers.
I had transcribed her earlier diatribes on Twitter, including one about the team’s initial decision to deny season ticket-holders a free trip to the 49ers Museum at Levi’s Stadium. A ticket-holder for 45 years, she invoked the “I paid to watch Steve DeBerg” card, before pledging not to walk in the “flippin’ museum” until the team paid proper respect to its fans.
I had my fingers on the typewriter keys, ready to get her response to the 49ers’ hiring of Geep Chryst as its offensive coordinator – the finishing piece in the team’s plan to replace Jim Harbaugh with what looked like fourth choices and deputized retreads.
