For Sunday's AFC and NFC Championship games, both CBS and Fox insisted on sticking their analysts at field level. The problem with that decision is both CBS and Fox didn't also adjust the audio levels of their analysts, who were completely drowned out by the crowd noise.
Halftime of the Kansas City Chiefs-Cincinnati Bengals game was widely panned for being incomprehensible. No one on the field could hear each other while the halftime performer sang, and no one at home could understand anything at all.
The Fox pregame broadcast for 49ers-Rams was marginally better, but still forced the old-timers at the table to use the fullest extent of their outside voices to try to get their thoughts across.
