The NFL Combine kicks off on Tuesday, but in the meantime, there is business to be taken care of in advance of free agency. Teams have until Wednesday, March 1, to designate a player with the franchise or transition tag. Once a tag is placed, teams have until the middle of July to negotiate an extension. After that, the player can only play on the tag’s one-year tender.
We already have some players getting tagged. The Los Angeles Chargers were the most recent to use the tag, placing it on outside linebacker Melvin Ingram Monday evening.
