SANTA CLARA — Back in 1951, the 49ers selected quarterback Y.A. Tittle with the No. 2 overall draft pick, and seven years later, they returned in that draft spot for quarterback John Brodie.
The 49ers again are No. 2 on the clock, and according to a NFL Media report Monday, they are “strongly considering” taking a quarterback at that spot Thursday night.
Such a report should not be shocking considering,
(a) The 49ers have met with and worked out the top QBs, with Mitchell Trubisky and Deshaun Watson presumably the leading candidates. Shanahan had a private workout this month with Trubisky, who went 8-5 for North Carolina last season, including a Sun Bowl loss to Stanford.
