If the way Kyle Shanahan operated as offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons last year is any indication, Carlos Hyde can expect some company in the backfield.
In winning an NFC championship, Shanahan got good production out of Devonta Freeman (227 carries, 1,079 yards, 11 touchdowns) and Tevin Coleman (118 caries, 520 yards, eight touchdowns).
Hyde has been productive in two systems the past two seasons, but has played in only 20 of 32 games, raising some durability concerns.
Tim Hightower arrived from New Orleans in free agency and DuJuan Harris was re-signed, but neither acquisition should prevent the 49ers from bring in help for Hyde.
