NFL bans chop blocks, makes 6 other rule changes

The San Francisco 49ers, as well as the 31 other clubs in the National Football League, will be challenged by the new NFL rule outlawing all “Chop Blocks.” According to Wikipedia, a chop block is defined as: an attempt by an offensive player to cut block (block at the thigh level or lower) a defensive player who is being blocked above the waist by another offensive player.

Previously chop blocks had been allowed in select circumstances: the two offensive linemen were lined up next to each other, the flow of play was toward the block, or the chop block was outside the initial tight end position and was performed by a player who lined up in the backfield.
