I'm not a huge grammar and punctuation snob, but this is one instance where a semi-colon probably was necessary. NBC Bay Area deleted the tweet, but as we all know, nothing is ever gone forever on the Internet! A comma is helpful, but a semi-colon would have done a much better job of separating out these two thoughts.
I'd say that just promoting the Chip Kelly news would be enough to get some love on social media. NBC Bay Area decided to push a little further, and we got this. Some folks are not overly pleased with the Chip Kelly hiring, but I would hope people have not jumped to their deaths over it and landed in a cemetery.
