SANTA CLARA — NaVorro Bowman showed up at the 49ers facility last month looking svelte, happy and reassured with his retirement plan.
Tuesday, the 31-year-old former linebacker indeed retired as a 49er, having singed a ceremonial contract one day earlier.
The 49ers actually cleared two roster spots Tuesday, shifting Bowman to the reserve/retired list while releasing kicker Jon Brown, who was made expendable once incumbent Robbie Gould singed a four-year contract last week.
Bowman earned All-Pro accolades four times and the Pro Bowl three times during a 49ers career that began in 2010 as a third-round draft pick and ended early in the 2017 season, which he finished with the Raiders.
