Niners defensive coordinator Jim O’Neil plans to take full advantage of safety Eric Reid’s versatility in 2016.
“We’ll go through this season and Eric, when it’s all said and done, will play probably both safety spots, nickel, will play some dime backer, will play some defensive end,” O’Neil said. “We’re just starting with him.”
Um, hold on, Jim: Reid will play defensive end?
“That’s what I said,” O’Neil said smiling.
We’ll see about defensive end, but it’s clear Reid will play a variety of roles this season based on how he was employed in a 28-0 season-opening win over the Rams on Monday.
