SANTA CLARA — There was nothing easy about rookie linebacker Reuben Foster’s return to the 49ers’ starting lineup on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
Not only was Foster playing for the first time in six weeks, but he was also playing in his first regular season game as the 49ers’ middle linebacker.
The results were mixed. Foster finished with five tackles in his first game since Sept. 10 — the 49ers’ season opener against the Carolina Panthers — but also seemed to struggle with his timing as he was trying to knock off over a month’s worth of rust.
