MINNEAPOLIS — There’s a first time for everything, as Mike McGlinchey learned in his first NFL game.
The rookie right tackle spent the final 29 minutes of the 49ers’ season-opening 24-16 loss to the Vikings playing right guard, a position he hadn’t played at any level.
After the 49ers lost their top two right guards to injuries, offensive line coach John Benton approached the draft’s ninth overall pick early in the third quarter.
“He said ‘McGlinch, you want to play right guard?’” McGlinchey said. “And I said ‘Uh, sure.’ And I did it.
