Michigan state legislators are touting a "bipartisan" open letter released on Friday that asks Detroit Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp to hire San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as Detroit's next head coach.
The letter, penned by Democratic Rep. Abdullah Hammoud, was apparently signed by 40 legislators. In it, Hammound thanks Ford Hamp for recently firing general manager Bob Quinn and coach Matt Patricia — the latter was 13-29-1 in 2.5 seasons — and then makes his case for Saleh, who was raised in Dearborn, Michigan, attended Northern Michigan University and coached at Michigan State.
“As Defensive Coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, [Saleh's] defense has improved across numerous categories; turnovers, sacks, and yards allowed per game," Hammound writes.
