In a sign that left tackle Joe Staley miss his third straight game, the 49ers signed offensive lineman Andrew Gardner and waived center Josh Allen today.
Gardner, 30, a 2009 sixth-round pick of the Dolphins, has played both guard and tackle in a career that’s included 27 games and 11 starts. He spent 2014-15 with the Eagles when Chip Kelly was their head coach. He hasn’t been in the NFL since Philadelphia released him Aug. 28.
The 49ers finished a 41-13 loss to the Falcons on Sunday without a backup tackle.
