Douglas still remembers the aftermath of the 1985 NFC Championship Game between the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears. The Niners, then an emerging dynasty, had blanked the Bears 23-0 at Candlestick Park, and Bay Area fans were hungry for another Super Bowl title against the mighty Miami Dolphins.
“That Golden Gate Transit rocked the whole way home,” he remembers. The chant of the day? "Eat fish.” Not necessarily the most creative trash talk, but hey, the 49ers did end up beating Dan Marino and the Phins a few weeks later, 38-16.
Before the 49ers moved to Santa Clara, folks in the Bay Area had a bunch of commuting options to Candlestick Park, thanks to the Candlestick Express and chartered buses.
