SANTA CLARA — Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy said he and members of the team’s front office knew exactly what price they were willing to pay to acquire Khalil Mack right before the start of the regular season.
So did the 49ers, who might still be mystified why the Raiders didn’t take their offer instead.
“You’d have to ask the Raiders,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday when asked why the Bears beat them out for Mack’s services. “It takes two to get it done and we went as hard as we could for him.”
Nagy said he wasn’t completely sure the 49ers were in the mix to acquire Mack’s services.
