Kyle Shanahan was 15 when his father, Mike, served as the 49ers offensive coordinator on the franchise’s last Super Bowl-winning team.
Fast forward 22 years and Kyle is serving a similar role for the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI on Feb. 5, after which, of course, he is expected to become the next 49ers coach.
The 49ers can meet with Shanahan as early as Friday afternoon in Atlanta, and then he is expected to join them Saturday in follow-up interviews with general manager finalists, Terry McDonough and George Paton.
Following his father’s coaching footsteps apparently has been a natural progression, and the benefits are showing.
