SAN DIEGO – The least-talked-about of the 49ers’ quarterbacks ended the exhibition season with a flourish.
Christian Ponder, whom the 49ers signed after Thad Lewis sustained a season-ending knee injury in the first preseason game, rushed for two touchdowns within three minutes late in the fourth quarter to help rally the 49ers to a 31-21 victory over the San Diego Chargers.
“I think we came in with a good game plan and the guys played really well,” Ponder said. “All the guys who were out there at the end in the fourth quarter and pretty much the whole game, we played really well.
