OAKLAND -- One former longtime member of the 49ers organization from the Eddie DeBartolo Jr. days texted me a little bit after Kevin Durant announced he was signing with the Warriors to say this:
"What the Warriors did reminded me of what 49ers used to do. (Joe) Lacob is Bay Area's new Mr. D."I checked in with another veteran of those days with that idea and he just said: "Yep."Maybe that just sounds like normal conversation, but if you know how much 49ers people from those days revere Eddie D, and how much they enjoyed those moments (and, most dramatically, his signing of Deion Sanders to set up the 1994 Super Bowl run), you know this is not said lightly by anybody associated with those times.
