SANTA CLARA – One of the changes that has been enacted on the 49ers’ practice field this season gives quarterback Colin Kaepernick an opportunity to express his voice in the huddle.
During training camp and regular-season practices the past four seasons, then-coach Jim Harbaugh often took control and made the play call to the offense. This summer, the 49ers are practicing the mechanics used in games with quarterbacks coach Steve Logan transmitting in the play call to Kaepernick via the earpiece in his helmet.
Then, Kaepernick relays the call in the huddle.
“It allows the players to have confidence in hearing your voice and you’re the one who’s going to be giving them direction on the field,” Kaepernick said on Wednesday.
