The 49ers are doubling down on their men from Down Under. Second-year pro Jarryd Hayne will be joined on the roster by fellow Australian Blake Muir, an undrafted guard from Baylor.
Muir agreed to terms and will formally sign his contract later this week, thus delaying the 49ers from announcing the deal, a league source confirmed.
Although Hayne arrived a year ago without any football experience, Muir evolved into an accomplished left guard the past two seasons at Baylor, where he transferred from Hawaii. The 6-foot-6, 315-pound lineman earned First-Team All-Big-12 honors as a senior.
Muir joins what’s suddenly become a logjam of guards on the 49ers depth chart, on which he’ll initially be buried.
