In 2017 the San Francisco 49ers drafted Joe Williams in the 4th round. While he had some off-field concerns, given that he left the Utah Utes football team and then later came back, it was understandable given he was grieving over the death of his sister and had some severe personal demons. By all accounts, Williams had the tools to be a solid playmaker for the 49ers.
Then he didn’t really do very much.
He had the yards—sure. But it’s easy to get yards in the preseason when starting running backs are pulled early, and you’re kept in the game.
