Tom Brady’s longtime backup will begin his 49ers tenure as C.J. Beathard’s caddie.
On Friday, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that just-acquired Jimmy Garoppolo will be the second-string quarterback Sunday against the Cardinals at Levi’s Stadium.
If Beathard is sidelined, Shanahan indicated Garoppolo is ready to run a portion of the offense. He would presumably wear a wristband with plays on it that he’s had in practice since he was acquired in a trade with the Patriots on Monday.
“He’s worked real hard at it and I think he’s gotten more comfortable each day,” Shanahan said.
