A little too much has been made of Jimmy Garoppolo’s modest numbers during the San Francisco 49ers’ 7-0 start to the 2019 season, and it’s almost like the quarterback heard some of his critics during the 49ers’ 28-25 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night.
Garoppolo has been aided by a strong running game and dominant defense so far this year, but that wasn’t the case Thursday as the running game struggled to gain traction in the first quarter and late in the second half, and a usually stout 49ers defense gave up 25 points, including a late 88-yard touchdown that brought the Cardinals within three points late in the fourth quarter.
