San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo says he and Tom Brady became "good friends" in New England, and the two still text each other every now and then.
During an appearance on Freakonomics Radio's "The Hidden Side of Sports," Garoppolo discussed his relationship with the quarterback he was originally supposed to eventually replace.
"We always had a good relationship," Garoppolo said.
This seems to refute an explosive ESPN story from January that alleged Brady saw Garoppolo as a "threat," and "didn't see it as his role to advise Garoppolo."
"Initially when I was younger, kind of like an older brother type of relationship, but as I got older and matured through the NFL, we became closer and we became good friends," Garoppolo said.
