Jimmy Garoppolo has been criticized for his decision-making on certain throws during the 2019 preseason, but the 49ers quarterback says the risk-taking is by design.
Speaking on KNBR’s “Tolbert, Krueger and Brooks” podcast Wednesday, Garoppolo said he uses practices and the preseason to test throws he wouldn’t normally make in a regular-season game.
“A big part of that is it still being preseason, or in practice, you try things like that,” he said. “You know, during a real game, you wouldn’t make that throw or that decision, but there’s a trust factor between quarterback and … whoever’s catching the ball.
