It wasn’t quite supposed to go this way for San Francisco 49ers defensive end Damontre Moore.
The 27-year-old journeyman lineman, who joined the Niners on a one-year contract last summer, was a nice storyline during the preseason, regularly serving as one of head coach Kyle Shanahan’s top exhibition performers behind an already-stacked defensive line heading towards the regular season.
That depth all but prevented Moore from making the 53-man roster in Week 1, and San Francisco gave him his walking papers.
But when the 49ers depth up front was tested, following a season-ending ACL injury to defensive end Ronald Blair in Week 10, a still-unsigned Moore got another chance.
