NBC’s football commentator Chris Collinsworth made an intriguing comment during the first-quarter of the 49ers’ eventual 30-27 loss to the Giants. He said the 49ers’ secondary tries to disguise coverages more than any other NFL team.
Why would an NFL team with a new defense, a new defensive coaching staff and a bunch of young players want to disguise coverages? A veteran defense with an entrenched coordinator would be better suited than a defense that has six different starters since end of last year.
This defense is comprised of players like Quinton Dial, Jimmie Ward, Kenneth Acker, Jaquiski Tarrt, Keith Reaser and Dontae Johnson who are simply trying to grasp the NFL.
