In tribute to friend, Joe Montana requests his street be renamed to include Dwight Clark

What appeared to be a promotion for a housing development at San Francisco’s City Hall on Sunday, turned out to be a tearful tribute to AIDS awareness history as well as the tender revelation of a true friendship.

Only in San Francisco can such compassion and sensitivity flow on what could have been a stiff corporate event.

Real estate developer FivePoint is erecting housing on the former site where Candlestick Park once loomed. However, FivePoint plans to acknowledge the great athletes, administrators and moments from the venue’s glorious past by naming streets after Candlestick Park luminaries.

Barry Bonds, Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Joe Montana, Bill Walsh, Ronnie Lott, Eddie DeBartolo, Carmen Policy, Juan Marichal, Jerry Rice and Orlando Cepeda will all have streets named after them.
