Remember the early days of Twitter? When you had to keep your thoughts to 140 characters? When a retweet involved old fashioned copy-pasting? When celebrities and athletes would actually respond to each other organically, rather than exclusively tagging each other to promote fake rivalries that double as brand deals?
I'm referring to 2010, when the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals were terrible. Their respective starting quarterbacks in late November of that year were Troy Smith and Derek Anderson.
A decade later, this Saturday, the two teams will play against each other in a slightly more meaningful contest, insofar as the Cardinals need to win to keep their playoff hopes alive (the 49ers, unfortunately, are terrible again).
