Hoyer: 49ers coach will get Garoppolo going

SANTA CLARA – Brian Hoyer called the 49ers quarterback job “a great opportunity” for Jimmy Garoppolo, who’s still has no official timetable to debut in the role Hoyer went 0-6 to start the season.

Hoyer shared encouraging words Monday for Garoppolo with a respectful nod to 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan.

Hoyer and Garoppolo swapped teams last week, of course, with Garoppolo getting traded Tuesday from the New England Patriots, who promptly signed Hoyer once the 49ers released him.
