Before the 49ers finally pried Jimmy Garoppolo away from the Patriots last week, John Lynch reportedly aimed even higher. After all, Bill Belichick made it clear that New England’s backup quarterback was off-limits.
So when Lynch inquired about Garoppolo and was rebuffed, according to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, he called Belichick back again to ask about trading for Tom Brady. His logic seems to follow this path: If the Patriots could not part with Garoppolo, perhaps they would create an opening for him by shipping off Brady?
However, Belichick’s reported reply was reasonably incredulous.
“Belichick just said, ‘What did you just ask me?
