Eddie DeBartolo Jr. had a 22-year-old stain removed from his legacy on Tuesday when President Trump pardoned the former 49ers owner for his role in a gambling fraud case in Louisiana.
The 73-year-old DeBartolo will never regain ownership of his beloved 49ers that he was forced to relinquish to his sister after he pleaded guilty of failing to report a felony when he paid former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards $400,000 in exchange for a riverboat gambling license.

But Trump’s pardon give him peace of mind and absolves him of his crime for which he served no jail time, but paid a $1 million fine, two years of probation and caused the NFL to suspend him for a year in 1997.
