The 49ers hope Nigel King will become their next impressive undrafted rookie wide receiver.
After releasing cornerback Chris Cook this morning, the 49ers filled the roster opening by signing King, who was released by the Dolphins on July 27. King (6-3, 210) declared for the NFL draft after he had 30 catches, 537 yards and a touchdown in his junior season. King, who was not invited to the combine, transferred to Kansas from Maryland, where he had 33 catches, 450 yards and four touchdowns in 2013.
King joins the 49ers two days after wide receiver Bruce Ellington sustained a muscle strain in practice and was sidelined for Tuesday’s session.
