SANTA CLARA – The 49ers coaches can stress the importance of running back Jarryd Hayne keeping his pad level low, but Tuesday is the first time the former rugby league star will actually be able to give it a shot for himself.
Through the entire offseason program and the first three days of training camp, Hayne’s indoctrination into an attempted NFL career has not been much different than his former career. Unlike his time with the Parramatta Eels in the National Rugby League, Hayne has been wearing a 49ers helmet on the practice field. But his daily practice gear has not included any pads.
