SANTA CLARA -- The 49ers began the half like a lion and ended it like a lamb.
Sharp throwing by Colin Kaepernick, including a 17-yard touchdown to Shaun Draughn, gave the 49ers a 14-0 lead. But an encouraging first quarter turned into a rough second quarter that allowed the Buccaneers to take the lead, 17-14.
Kaepernick did not throw an incompletion on his initial drive, hitting tight end Vance McDonald for 24 yards and Torrey Smith for 17. The latter set up Mike Davis' four-yard touchdown run, the first of his career.
The 49ers have used several inside linebacker combinations this season.
