Santa Clara’s local watchdog agency lambasted five City Council members, three of whom were directly bankrolled by the San Francisco 49ers, for their favoritism toward the professional football team in a report published Wednesday, with a particular focus on one indicted councilman.
The grand jury report titled “IRRECONCILABLE DIFFERENCES” details “the unprofessional and antagonistic behavior of specific members,” which has led to a loss of public trust and has derailed many of the responsibilities of the council. It also notes two examples of how certain councilmembers put the interests of the football team first “rather than focusing on their fiscal duties regarding Stadium business.
