Garoppolo deal — a look at how other get-rich-quick QBs fared

The 49ers signed Jimmy Garappolo to a five-year contract extension Thursday worth a reported $137.5 million after just five NFL starts.

A look at how some other NFL quarterbacks who got rich quick fared:

Rob Johnson, Buffalo

Contract: Five years, $25 million

Johnson went 20 of 24 for 294 yards and two touchdowns to open the 1997 for Jacksonville, then gave way to Mark Brunell. That was Johnson’s lone start, which he parlayed into a multi-year deal with Buffalo. Johnson lost his job to Doug Flutie and was 9-17 as a Buffalo starter before being let go.
