Alex Smith was the top pick, but the 49ers made a franchise-altering move in the third round when they selected running back Frank Gore.
Frank Gore was the heart and soul of the 49ers offense for the last decade, but in 2006, Gore put up a percentage of the 49ers offense that was ridiculous. Gore finished the 2006 season with 2,180 yards from scrimmage.
