Former Raiders WR signs one-year deal with 49ers

Veteran wide receiver Louis Murphy, who has not played in the NFL since sustaining a torn ACL in October 2015, signed a one-year contract with the 49ers on Monday.

The 49ers designated rookie outside linebacker Jimmie Gilbert waived/injured to make space for Murphy on the 90-man roster. Gilbert sustained a torn ACL during practice Sunday. Gilbert is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery.

Murphy, 30, opened last season on physically unable to perform with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The club released him in November.

Murphy was in the headlines this offseason, as he was arrested in April for carrying a concealed, loaded Glock 23 pistol in his backpack at Tampa International Aiport.
