Former Raiders, 49ers linebacker Matt Millen hospitalized, playing a waiting game

Former Raiders and 49ers linebacker Matt Millen is in a New Jersey hospital awaiting a heart transplant, NBC Sports’ Peter King has reported.

Millen, who won two Super Bowls with the Raiders, one with the 49ers and another with the Washington Redskins, announced in April that he suffers from amyloidosis, a rare disease — fewer than 200,000 cases are diagnosed each year in the United States — that can affect internal organs.

The disease attacked Millen’s heart, which he said in April was working at 30 percent of capacity.

King, who interviewed Millen at his Durham, Pennsylvania farm in May, wrote that Millen “at 60, needs a transplant fairly soon.
