Two former 49ers players had strong words for San Francisco's defense after Sunday's 23-17 loss to the Vikings.
Ex-cornerback Richard Sherman (a Niner from 2018-2020) and ex-safety Donte Whitner (2011-2013) each criticized the defensive performance that resulted in the Week 2 defeat. Understandably, the two were particularly frustrated with Justin Jefferson's 97-yard touchdown that San Francisco gave up in the second quarter. The 49ers defense looked bad enough on their own, but the mistakes were magnified even more when fans recognized that an official outraced two San Francisco defenders to the end zone.
Sherman said his piece on his eponymous podcast published Monday.
