Former 49ers quarterback leads Purdue’s football revival

SAN FRANCISCO – Being quarterback for the 49ers carries such distinction that even men who played bit roles are often fondly remembered.

Jeff Brohm is one of those men, and even after 20 years, he is tickled just to be a tiny piece of 49ers quarterbacking history. Brohm was a backup to Steve Young for the better part of three seasons in the mid-1990s when the team went through a transition phase but was still riding high – 36-12 in the three seasons he was with them.

Brohm, 46, is the first-year head coach of the Purdue Boilermakers, who play in the Foster Farms Bowl at Levi’s Stadium on Dec.
