Former 49ers player Jonathan Martin says he attempted suicide ‘multiple times’ during career

Former 49ers tackle Jonathan Martin took to Facebook on Wednesday to share his experiences fighting depression much of his life.

Martin, who retired from the NFL earlier this year, admitted that he had attempted suicide “multiple times” during his NFL career. Martin, unfortunately, is best known for being the bullying victim of Richie Incognito, then of the Miami Dolphins. Incognito allegedly called Martin racial slurs and threatened him and his family with violence. Martin sat out the 2013 season before being traded to the 49ers in 2014.

Martin’s account, which is written in the second person, includes this:

Your job leads you to attempt to kill yourself on multiple occasions.
