SANTA CLARA — NaVorro Bowman announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday, and now wants to step away from professional football as a member of the 49ers.
Bowman, who was at the team’s headquarters Tuesday, spent eight-plus years with the 49ers after being selected in the third round (91st overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Penn State. Bowman was named All-Pro four times (2011-13, 2015) and made three Pro Bowls (2012-13, 2015). He helped lead the 49ers to three straight NFC Championships, and a berth in Super Bowl XLVII.
A gruesome knee injury in the 2013 playoffs cost Bowman the entire 2014 season.
