Running back Jerick McKinnon was arguably the San Francisco 49ers‘ biggest addition this offseason, which may confuse casual NFL fans.
McKinnon was viewed more as a gadget-type pass-catching running back with the Minnesota Vikings who never really emerged as starter material. He was always sharing the load with some other running back (often a bigger one who specialized in power) in a committee.
However, Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan did what he does best and saw McKinnon as a great fit for his offense, consequently offering him a hefty four-year, $30 million contract to sign on with San Francisco.
